Distinguishing features

According to Littler and Litter (2003):

Erect plants to 23 cm high. Branches comprised of large flat segments that are generally oval in shape, to 3 cm long x 4 cm wide. Often segments are arranged in a single plane. Segment margins thickened, often rippled.

Comments

Dr John Huismann of Murdoch University notes that Halimeda macroloba is the only Halimeda species in the Lizard Island region with big flat segments that grows in sand (pers. comm. Dec 2014).
