Cottony Cushion Scale Insect (Icerya purchasi)

Icerya

Just about ready to burst with little crawlers. The eggs develop and hatch beneath the cottony sheath that extrudes from underneath the female's canopy, which is the orange and black part still seen on the lefthand end. Presumably, prior to reproducing, she looked like the unexpanded individual next to her? Found on Eysenhardtia texana on the trail to the Enchanted Rock summit.
