Distribution and habitat preferences

Western Pacific: definitely known only from southern Ryukyu Islands, southern Taiwan, and the Philippines and Papua New Guinea.

The fish are found in coral reef lagoons. Common around coral reefs.  The larvae are planktonic and are often found in shallow, coastal waters. (Fishbase)
