Distinguishing features

This is Australia's largest grasshopper. Large spines on the rear tibia are red or orange with black tips; body mottled and lacking a paler midstripe; two dark marks on the outside of the femur (Aust Govt Dept of Agriculture Locust and Grasshopper Identification Guide accessed 23 Sep 2014)
