Distribution and habitat preferences

They are found in the Southwest Pacific in Australia, Norfolk Island and Lord Howe Island, New Zealand, and Kermadec Islands. In the Southeast Pacific they are found at the Desventuradas Islands.

Adults are benthic fishes in shallow estuaries and outer shelf; juveniles are pelagic in open ocean. (Fishbase)
