Distinguishing features

adult colour is blackish-gray with three indistinct black dorsal longitudinal thoracic stripes (as compared to the house fly’s distinctive thoracic stripes). The fourth longitudinal wing vein is straight (not bent as in the house fly). Fannia at rest hold their wings over the back more than the house fly does, creating a narrower V-shape to the wing outline. The legs are black, the halteres yellow. (PADIL)
