Tarwhine (Rhabdosargus sarba), Fairy Bower

Bream are one of the most commonly recognised fish in Australia, but sometimes a bream is not a bream! There are two species of bream, black bream in our southern waters, and yellowfin bream from Qld to Vic. The fish in this photo is neither, however - it's a tarwhine. Tarwhine have a taller back, more distinct golden stripes and rounded lips.
